A beautiful salon just outside Chicago. We were there as they prepared to move and create a whole new space and experience for their clients. The two owners brought to the brainstorming meeting, a brick and velvet fabric, as they were just beginning construction on the building. The end result of a yin yang logo with a swoosh of hair. And a mark that relates across all media. The green for growth and blue for water is exactly what they work with every day. The exterior and interior signage along with brochure bring all the assets together.

A love of surface design began back when my job was to pick out fabric for fashion designs. The visuals, textures and concepts of an overall look was inspiring. And of course creative. Then it was rekindled as a creative passion with the opportunity in my visual design career to work with an internationally know artist on all things product, surface, giftware. It has since been rekindled and these are a few inspirations. Examples include: 'Birthday Party', "As Seen On" the Pattern Parade: http://annietroe.blogspot.com/p/pattern-parade.html - An honor and privilege, thank you Annie! Hope Manor - Chicago Veterans Housing
Identity, Graphic Design, Donor Package, Stationary System
The first in the country, Chicago builds housing for veterans. Volunteers of America (VOA) has been serving veterans since 1896. In Chicago, approximately 1,000 Veterans are homeless on any given night. VOA has met that challenge by building Hope Manor Apartments. The success of this program led to a second build to serve some of the most vulnerable veteran, families. The opportunity to design a logo, stationary system and donor package for this project was inspiring. A home draped in the flag and a star (the veteran) at it’s heart.

Moocho Poocho dog walking service in Lincoln Park with a love and caring for dogs (and cats). The logo colors are all about Chicago blue! A playful use of Rockwell typography, and a firm all caps of there services in Bell Gothic, let you know just who they are. A logo must work in black and white first and foremost. You never know what media outlet uses down the road your mark will need. Keep it simple. That way, it can be as large as a billboard, or as small as a favicon.
